Here's a great book on the problems in the Islamic world. Author is David Pryce-Jones. Probably the most thorough treatment of the issue I've yet come across. Also look at "What Went Wrong" by Bernard Lewis. Also try Fouad Ajami's "Dream Palace of the Arabs." When finished read also Dore Gold's "Hatred's Kingdom." Necessary reading. Or you could read the much touted recent book by Karen Armstrong which proclaims Islam to be a religion of peace. Right.
